Position Summary
Toptal is seeking a highly experienced and dedicated Lead Privacy Officer - Employment Law to join our growing legal team. This is a fully remote position, offering the opportunity to work from anywhere in the USA. As a key member of the legal department, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining Toptal's employment-related privacy program, ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, including GDPR, CCPA, and other relevant privacy legislation.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement Toptalβs employment-related privacy policies and procedures.
- Provide expert advice and guidance to Human Resources, Recruiting, and other internal teams on privacy-related matters.
- Conduct privacy impact assessments (PIAs) and data protection impact assessments (DPIAs) for new and existing projects and initiatives.
- Monitor and analyze changes in privacy laws and regulations and update Toptal's policies and procedures accordingly.
- Manage and respond to employee data subject requests (e.g., access, rectification, erasure).
- Develop and deliver privacy training programs for employees.
- Investigate and respond to privacy incidents and breaches.
- Collaborate with the security team to ensure data security measures are in place to protect employee data.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for employment-related privacy matters with external parties, including regulators and vendors.
- Maintain records of processing activities (RoPA).
- Oversee and manage data mapping exercises.
Required Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and active membership in at least one US state bar.
- Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP), Certified Information Privacy Manager (CIPM), or similar privacy certification preferred.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in privacy law, with a focus on employment law.
- In-depth knowledge of GDPR, CCPA, and other relevant privacy laws and regulations.
- Experience developing and implementing privacy programs.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, remote environment.
- Proficiency in using remote collaboration tools such as Slack, Zoom, and Google Workspace.
- Ability to work effectively in a fully remote environment and maintain consistent communication with a distributed team.
Technical Requirements
- Dedicated home office space free from distractions.
- Reliable high-speed internet connection with a minimum upload and download speed of 25 Mbps.

Compensation & Benefits
The annual salary range for this fully remote position is $175,000 - $225,000, commensurate with experience and location.
