Position Summary
Buffer is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Compliance Legal Researcher specializing in Privacy and Data Protection to join our legal team. This is a fully remote position, allowing you to work from anywhere within the United States. As a Compliance Legal Researcher, you will play a crucial role in ensuring Buffer's compliance with global privacy laws and regulations, supporting our commitment to data security and user trust. You will conduct thorough legal research, analyze complex privacy issues, and contribute to the development and implementation of effective compliance strategies. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive legal research on global, federal, and state privacy laws and regulations, including but not limited to GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, and emerging data protection legislation.
- Analyze legal and regulatory requirements related to data collection, processing, storage, and transfer.
- Monitor and track changes in privacy laws and regulations and assess their impact on Buffer's business operations.
- Assist in the development and implementation of privacy policies, procedures, and training programs.
- Support the legal team in conducting privacy impact assessments (PIAs) and data protection impact assessments (DPIAs).
- Research and analyze data breach notification laws and assist in incident response planning.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product, engineering, and marketing, to ensure privacy compliance across the organization.
- Prepare clear and concise legal memoranda, reports, and presentations summarizing research findings and recommendations.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of a comprehensive privacy compliance framework.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Law, Political Science, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in legal research, with a focus on privacy and data protection.
- Strong understanding of global privacy laws and regulations, including GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, and other relevant legislation.
- Excellent legal research and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret and apply complex legal concepts.
- Proficiency in using legal research databases and online resources (e.g., LexisNexis, Westlaw).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex legal information clearly and concisely.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a remote team, managing multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
- Demonstrated commitment to maintaining confidentiality and protecting sensitive information.
- Experience working in a remote environment and using remote collaboration tools.
Technical Requirements
As a fully remote team, we require the following from all our team members:
- Home Office: A dedicated, quiet workspace free from distractions.
- Internet Speed: Reliable high-speed internet connection with a minimum upload/download speed of 25 Mbps.
- Equipment: Company provided laptop and peripherals or a home office stipend to ensure optimal setup.
- Time Zone: Must be available to work during core business hours which generally align with US time zones (Pacific, Mountain, Central, or Eastern).

Compensation & Benefits
The annual salary range for this fully remote position is $65,000 - $85,000 USD, commensurate with experience and qualifications. In addition to competitive compensation, Buffer offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes:
