Position Summary

The Landscape Architect will join Northern Star Resources’ remote design team to lead the planning, design, and implementation of landscape projects that align with the company’s sustainability goals. This role requires a blend of artistic vision, technical expertise, and a deep understanding of environmental design principles to create functional, aesthetically pleasing, and ecologically responsible outdoor spaces across mining sites and corporate facilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop comprehensive landscape master plans that integrate environmental design principles and sustainability concepts.
  • Produce detailed design drawings, renderings, and specifications using CAD and other industry‑standard design software.
  • Collaborate with engineers, environmental scientists, and project managers to ensure designs meet regulatory requirements and operational constraints.
  • Conduct site analyses, including soil, vegetation, and climate assessments, to inform design decisions.
  • Prepare cost estimates, material selections, and construction documentation for landscape projects.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior design staff and external consultants.
  • Monitor construction progress and perform post‑implementation evaluations to assess performance against design intent.
  • Stay current with emerging trends, best practices, and innovative technologies in landscape architecture and sustainable design.

Required Qualifications

  • 2 to 9 years of professional experience in landscape architecture, preferably within industrial or resource‑focused environments.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in applying environmental design principles and sustainability concepts to real‑world projects.
  • Advanced skills in CAD and design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite).
  • Strong portfolio showcasing completed landscape designs that balance functionality, aesthetics, and environmental stewardship.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities, with a proven track record of working effectively in remote, multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and budget constraints.

Required Education

A bachelor's degree or higher in Landscape Architecture, Environmental Design, or a related field is required. Candidates with equivalent professional experience in lieu of a formal degree will also be considered.

Desired Skills

  • Certification or registration with a professional landscape architecture board (e.g., L.A.R.C., ASLA membership).
  • Experience with GIS mapping and spatial analysis tools.
  • Knowledge of native plant species and ecological restoration techniques.
  • Familiarity with LEED, Green Star, or other sustainability rating systems.
  • Proficiency in 3D modeling and visualization software such as Rhino or Lumion.

Compensation & Benefits

Northern Star Resources offers a competitive salary range of $65,000 to $113,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
