Position Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Legal Researcher with a strong background in Intellectual Property law to join our dynamic legal team. This is a fully remote position, allowing you to work from anywhere within the United States. As a Senior Legal Researcher, you will play a critical role in supporting our consulting teams with complex IP legal research and analysis. You will work closely with attorneys, consultants, and other legal professionals to provide timely, accurate, and insightful information to help inform client engagements and internal projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive legal research on a wide range of intellectual property matters, including patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, and related litigation.
- Analyze and interpret legal statutes, regulations, case law, and administrative rulings.
- Prepare detailed legal memoranda, research reports, and presentations summarizing findings and providing strategic recommendations.
- Monitor and track developments in intellectual property law and advise internal stakeholders on potential impacts.
- Collaborate with attorneys and consultants to develop IP strategies for clients.
- Assist in the preparation of legal documents, such as patent applications, trademark filings, and licensing agreements.
- Utilize online legal research databases and other resources to efficiently gather and analyze information.
- Participate in virtual team meetings and contribute to knowledge sharing within the legal team.
- Stay up-to-date on emerging trends and best practices in intellectual property law and remote legal research.
Required Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
- Admission to the bar in at least one U.S. state.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a legal researcher or attorney with a focus on intellectual property law.
- Extensive knowledge of intellectual property law principles, including patent, trademark, copyright, and trade secret law.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct thorough and efficient legal research using online legal research databases (e.g., Westlaw, LexisNexis).
- Excellent analytical, writing, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a remote team.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States.
Technical Requirements
As a fully remote employee, you will be required to maintain a professional home office environment and meet the following technical requirements:
- Dedicated workspace free from distractions.
- High-speed internet connection with a minimum upload speed of 10 Mbps and download speed of 50 Mbps.
- Reliable computer with updated operating system and sufficient processing power to run necessary software applications.
- Headset with microphone for clear communication during virtual meetings.
- Webcam for video conferencing.
- Ability to work during standard U.S. business hours, preferably within the Eastern Time Zone (ET) or Central Time Zone (CT).
McKinsey will provide a one-time home office stipend to assist with setting up your remote workspace.

Compensation & Benefits
The annual salary range for this fully remote Senior Legal Researcher - Intellectual Property position is $140,000 to $190,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications. McKinsey offers a comprehensive benefits package, including:
