Position Summary
Automattic (WordPress) is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Software Engineering Manager to lead a DevOps team. This is a fully REMOTE position; you can work from anywhere in the USA. As the Software Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for guiding a team of skilled DevOps engineers, ensuring the reliability, scalability, and security of our infrastructure and applications. You will collaborate closely with development, security, and product teams to streamline our CI/CD pipelines, automate infrastructure management, and foster a culture of DevOps excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of DevOps engineers.
- Define and implement DevOps best practices, processes, and standards across the organization.
- Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of our cloud infrastructure (e.g., AWS, GCP).
- Drive the automation of infrastructure provisioning, configuration management, and application deployments.
- Manage and optimize our CI/CD pipelines to enable rapid and reliable releases.
- Monitor system performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement solutions to improve efficiency and scalability.
- Collaborate with security teams to ensure the security of our infrastructure and applications.
- Participate in incident response and troubleshooting efforts.
- Contribute to the overall DevOps strategy and roadmap.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning within the team.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in a DevOps or SRE role.
- 2+ years of experience in a management or leadership role, preferably in a remote environment.
- Strong understanding of DevOps principles and practices.
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS or GCP.
- Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or Go.
- Experience with configuration management tools such as Ansible, Chef, or Puppet.
- Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, especially in a distributed team setting.
- Ability to work independently and manage your time effectively in a remote environment.
Technical Requirements
As a fully remote company, we have a few technical requirements to ensure you can thrive in your role:
- Dedicated Home Office: You will need a dedicated, quiet workspace free from distractions.
- Reliable Internet Connection: A stable and high-speed internet connection is essential for communication and collaboration. A minimum download speed of 25 Mbps and upload speed of 5 Mbps is recommended.

- Time Zone Alignment: While we offer flexible working hours, some overlap with US time zones (Eastern or Pacific) is required for team meetings and collaboration.
Desired Skills

Compensation & Benefits
The annual salary range for this REMOTE Software Engineering Manager - DevOps position is $160,000 - $220,000 USD. Salary is determined based on experience, skills, and location within the USA.
