Key Responsibilities
The Disability Assistant exercises judgment on all administrative and clerical aspects of client cases, often involving complex decision-making related to privacy laws:
HIPAA Compliance: Make complex decisions regarding protected healthcare information based on the Federal Health Information Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA).
Case Review: Conduct initial reviews of all disability supplements for accuracy and completeness, flagging priority cases for medical personnel.
Customer Service Interface: Serve as the primary point of contact for DES staff with clients and external agencies, providing telephonic support.
Information Management: Follow HIPAA regulations to request clinical information from treating sources and determine if requests are legally complete.
Case Coordination: Coordinate client transportation for consultative examinations and process returned mail, consulting with SPMP on follow-up actions.
Required Skills and Qualifications

Education: Associate's degree in business or a related field, or equivalent experience.
